The Real Meaning of Raksha Bandhan In 2020

Raksha Bandhan: Things You Need To Know And What Exactly It Means

"The festival of bond between brother and sister "

Everyone knows that Raksha Bandhan is the festival that shows love and bonding between brother and sister. On this day all sisters tie Rakhi on the wrist of the brother and pray for his long life and his brother promise her to protect from all evils by offering gifts. The history behind this festival is the mythology of Hinduism. In Mahabharata (the great Indian epic) Draupadi who was the wife of Pandava’s torn the corner of her saree and tie that piece of cloth on the bleeding finger of Shree Krishna so that finger will stop bleeding and in return of that Shree Krishna promised to protect her from all evils. This is the reason why we used to celebrate this and named Raksha Bandhan where Raksha means “Protection” and Bandhan means “Thread”.

How the definition is changing as per change in generation

The change in generation leads to a change in the meaning of festivals because it is important to make changes so that you can get the desired benefit and enjoy the festival. In the current generation, most people don’t even know the reason behind celebrating this festival and used to do misbehave with other girls or women. This is the reason why you should know the new definition of RakshaBandhan- “Now sisters tie the knot on the wrist of brother and want him to not misbehave with other’s sister and respect women so that this will start making changes and then not a single sister asks brother to protect her”.

The government says- “बेटी पढ़ाओ, बेटी बचा” but they are not able to provide the environment where girls can live safely without any fear and this is the reason why people hesitate of having a girl child. Now it is the responsibility of all the brothers to make changes in the nation so that everyone wants to have a girl child so that they can celebrate all the festivals with full enjoyment because-

राखी की कीमत तुम्हे तब समझ नहीं आयेगी

जब बहन की इज्जत के लिए पूरी बुनिया साथ खड़ी हो पायेगी

Things brother can gift her sister

If you don’t know what to gift on Raksha Bandhan then here are few things that can help you in making a decision-

  • Clothes
  • Bangles
  • Jewelry
  • New Phones
  • Gift card

If you don’t know about any particular thing that your sister may love to have then you can choose a Gift card so that she can purchase anything of her choice. So that it becomes easy for both of you.

Is this festival is only for real brother and sister?

No, if you don’t have any sister or brother then you can tie Rakhi to anyone whom you feel like your brother. This will help you in enhancing the bond and love between two families and everyone lives happily. So, try to make changes in the traditional method of celebrating the festival and enjoy spreading the love of joy.

Does COVID-19 affects the bond of Raksha Bandhan?

Some brothers and sisters are not able to meet their sibling due to COVID-19 but if you truly love your family then this Pandemic will not make any changes in the relation. Everyone can share their love online using shopping sites and send gifts via Courier (only if they want). This time will pass soon but if you neglect the rules of government and get affected to Corona then this may cause problems for a long time.

Hence, you should stay at home and talk with your brother via Video call and share your feelings. You can meet him or her at any time when you want but being safe during this time is most important for both brother and sister. So, try to make changes and enjoy the festival of love by staying at home.
